Our Bedroom Makeover Before And After
Our bedroom makeover is finally complete! Six weeks ago, we embarked on the One Room Challenge, a thrilling experience that pushed us to finish decorating our master bedroom within six short weeks. I must confess that I always relish this challenge as it provides an added motivation to tackle projects you might have been putting off. The pressure of a deadline can indeed spark creativity and drive us to achieve more!
As a quick recap, we’ve only just moved into this new home for over a month now. It’s essential for me to start making it our own, so I could feel at ease here. Given that we spend a considerable amount of time in the master bedroom, I wanted it to exude an airy and comfortable ambiance, allowing us to unwind and relax. Fortunately, you don’t need a substantial budget to give your bedroom a stunning makeover.
In this post, I’ll share some simple yet effective ideas and new pieces that can transform a room into a haven of serenity.
WEEK 1 – LARGE MASTER BEDROOM IDEAS & INSPIRATION
WEEK 2 – GONE ON VACATION
WEEK 3 – BEDROOM DESIGN PLAN: HOW TO DESIGN A ROOM FROM START TO FINISH
WEEK 4 – BEDROOM LAYOUT: HOW TO ARRANGE FURNITURE
WEEK 5: HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT RUG FOR UNDER A BED
I’m thrilled with the final result of our bedroom makeover! The end product exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only did it turn out exactly as I had envisioned, but even Jordon, who’s notoriously hard to please, gave it a thumbs up. It’s a major win for me, and I’m feeling incredibly satisfied with how everything came together.
Going back to my master bedroom inspiration, I was going for neutral, light, airy, modern, with a slight traditional twist.
Our home renovation journey began with a fresh coat of paint. We chose Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in the room. This subtle yet soothing color worked wonders, transforming the space into a cozy retreat. In contrast, our previous home featured stark white walls, so we were eager to experiment with richer hues in our new property.
In addition to painting the walls, we also gave the dark wood trim a makeover.
We replaced the original 3-inch baseboards with taller 5 1/2” boards for a sleeker and more modern appearance. The Pure White by Sherwin Williams provided a clean and crisp contrast to the warm beige color, creating a visually appealing combination.
Furniture
We decided to keep a consistent aesthetic by reusing our existing bed frame and headboard, complemented by a bench we already owned and an accent chair. The main challenge was finding a dresser that fit the wall it would be placed against, as well as new nightstands to match. To create visual interest, we incorporated a darker, more rustic wood finish in the furniture, which would contrast nicely with our warm hickory floors elsewhere in the house.
The chosen dresser perfectly met our requirements. For the nightstands, affordability and a crisp white color were essential. The addition of gold handle accents adds a touch of sophistication. Given the spacious nature of our bedroom, we had the room to include an accent chair, which has become a convenient spot to throw things when rushing to get ready for work in the morning.
The bench at the foot of the bed also provides a practical surface for setting items down, and it’s lovely to have a place to sit and put on shoes before starting the day.
Lighting
While lighting is often the unsung hero of a room’s design, it’s crucial to get it right. A dated ceiling fan can quickly make an entire space feel stale and outdated. For Jordon, having a fan on during summer nights is essential, so instead of trading in the old fan for a chandelier, I opted to upgrade to a sleeker model. After all, why sacrifice style when there are plenty of fantastic options for stylish ceiling fan lights?
Gallery Wall
In our bedroom, a prominent wall demanded attention with its vast expanse. A clever solution presented itself – a gallery wall! After scouring the market for affordable yet stylish options, we stumbled upon IKEA’s Ribba square frames, each priced at under $15. This option not only fit our budget but also allowed us to create a visually appealing display that would have otherwise been unattainable with expensive art pieces.
Although the photos we had ordered failed to arrive in time, we’re eager to retake them once they do, ensuring a seamless integration into our gallery wall.
Textiles
I’m a big fan of incorporating texture and layers into our home decor, and pillows and throws are some of my favorite ways to do just that. Our duvet has been a staple for a while now, but it’s the throw at the end of our bed that really adds a pop of color and warmth to the space. The warm tones in that throw are especially perfect for fall, and I’ve been intentionally incorporating more of those colors into our decor as a whole.
One of my favorite decorative pieces is the beautiful throw on our chair. It shares the same warm color palette that I’m loving right now, and it’s from Turkish-T – a brand that also offers an array of authentic Turkish towels in different colors and styles. We actually use some of those towels in our kitchen and bathrooms!
Recently, I shared my struggles with choosing the perfect rug for our bedroom, but ultimately decided on a light-colored option with plenty of pattern and color to keep our dog Bria entertained while she rolls around on it – and it can handle any dirt that might get tracked in. And now, our bedroom makeover is finally complete! It’s been great to see how the space has transformed over the last few weeks, and I’m glad we’re done with this project so we can move on to the next one.
There are countless amazing transformations out there, and I encourage you to check out what some of the other participants have accomplished in their own home reveals. You’ll definitely be inspired!
