A Guest Bedroom Makeover

A Guest Bedroom Makeover

I had the pleasure of assisting my friend Huong with her guest room makeover, building upon the success of our previous collaboration on her living room renovation. The before photos aptly capture Huong’s dilemma – the room served as an office, craft space, and occasional guest quarters, leaving her unsure how to effectively utilize the space. To address this uncertainty, we began by reinstalling the doors, which not only provided practical storage but also freed up valuable floor space.

Additionally, we constructed a bed, fulfilling Huong’s desire for a functional and comfortable retreat. I envisioned bright white walls, so we blended paint samples to create a warm and inviting hue that wasn’t too stark or cold. The room’s transformation was largely driven by strategic furniture choices from IKEA, supplemented with textiles from H&M Home and Home Center, as well as the addition of a custom wooden shelf featuring IKEA brackets.

I was pleasantly surprised by how significantly the space evolved following these thoughtful additions, ultimately revealing a charming and inviting guest room that exceeded our initial expectations.

A good friend, Zaza (from the amazing @zazahardytravels account on IG!), had painted some succulents and cacti for Huong in watercolor, so we had them all framed and hung them up with her awesome “The Big Lebowski” poster. I love that we were able to use something so meaningful to make a small gallery wall in this room!

I love “shopping” in peoples homes when I’m styling, and Huong really had some amazing stuff to work with. Many of these items were things that she had collected over time, and it was just a matter of putting them all together.
It really helps bring some life and character to a space when we can personalize with those kinds of details! I hope you enjoyed the space!

Here’s a breakdown of the products listed: Paint (8816 and 453 mixed) from Jotun is included in the mix, along with a bench from IKEA that’s no longer available. The side table also from IKEA has sold out, but there are alternatives to be found. For instance, if you’re looking for a similar pink cushion cover, consider H&M Home’s patterned option instead.

Unfortunately, the original wall lamp and chandelier from Home Center and IKEA respectively, as well as the macrame mirror, have also sold out. To fill the gap, you could opt for a white mirror from Ali Express or stick with IKEA’s round rug which is still available. And if you’re looking to frame your favorite piece of art, Arab Frames offers custom framing services.
